Ellen Chaffee says she’s leaving as Valley City State University president

BISMARCK N.D.

The president of Valley City State University says she’s stepping down in June.

Ellen Chaffee made the announcement during a “state of the university” address at Valley City State. When she leaves June 30, she’ll have served as president of the school for 15 years.

Chaffee became president of both Valley City State and Mayville State University in August 1993. Her Mayville State presidency ended in September 2002, and she continued as the chief executive of Valley City State.

The Board of Higher Education will have to choose Chaffee’s successor. The board is already searching for new presidents for the University of North Dakota, Dickinson State University and Lake Region State College in Devils Lake.
