LeMoyne-Owen College Receives Largest Gift in the Institution’s History

After submitting a five-year interim accreditation report, LeMoyne-Owen College was found to be in compliance by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), according to the Daily Memphian. The LeMoyne-Owen College board of trustees has announced that the contract of the institution’s president, Dr. Andrea Miller, will not be renewed when it expires on September 1, 2019. Additionally, a news release from United Campus Workers notes that board chair J.W. Gibson has resigned.

‘Last Mile Grants’ a Saving Grace for LeMoyne-Owen Students
For Frederick Jones, receiving a “Last Mile” grant to finish his education at LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) in Memphis was the “ram in the bush.” The senior interdisciplinary studies major received the grant this fall under a new initiative at LOC that aims to support undergraduate seniors who are on track to graduation, but have financial barriers affecting their re-enrollment and completion.

ROTC Programs Bring Access to Education and Careers for HBCU Students
The revival of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at LeMoyne-Owen College in Tennessee makes the Memphis-based school one of several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the country that offers students an education and military training to become a commissioned officer in the United States armed forces.
