The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tallahassee is taking over the investigation of unauthorized grade changes at Florida A&M University, the Tallahassee Democrat reported last week.
FAMU spokeswoman Sharon Saunders said administrators sought the help of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to strengthen efforts to prosecute those responsible, according to the newspaper.
“We are pleased that the U.S. Attorney’s Office has made this determination,” Saunders said in a news release. “Their involvement will send a signal that we are serious about seeking prosecution.”
Details of the investigation have not been released, so it is unclear if a student, faculty member or staff member made the change. However, President James Ammons said he and his administrators have “zero tolerance for this kind of behavior,” the newspaper reported.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office will work with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FAMU Police Department, which started the investigation on Sept. 17.
