FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Officials say the two people killed in a vehicle crash north of Fort Collins were professors at the University of Wyoming’s school of nursing.
The Colorado State Patrol says 59-year-old Carol L. Macnee and 54-year-old Susan M. McCabe both died at the scene of the Thursday crash on U.S. 287 about 20 miles north of Fort Collins. Both were wearing seat belts.
University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan issued a statement Friday identifying both women as professors of nursing at UW.
“All of us at the University of Wyoming are shocked and saddened by the tragic death of two of our professors in the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, Carol Macnee and Susan McCabe,” Buchanan said. “They were caring individuals who will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, students and colleagues at this difficult time.”
The patrol says Macnee was northbound on the highway but lost control and veered into the southbound lanes, where her vehicle struck two other SUVs Thursday evening. The collision sent one of the SUVs down an embankment.
Four people in the two SUVs were injured.
The patrol says the road was icy at the time and that Macnee may have been driving too fast for the conditions.
