CLARK COLLEGE (Wash.) has received a $106,500 grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust to purchase production and videoconferencing equipment to provide more learning options for students interested in health care. The Clark College Foundation will now raise additional funds to develop the program’s curriculum and manage it.
EMORY UNIVERSITY (Ga.) has received a $14 MILLION grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to reduce tobacco use in China. The funds will be used to establish the Emory Global Health Institute — China Tobacco Partnership.
HAMPTON UNIVERSITY (Va.) has received a $476,000 gift from the Wachovia Foundation to create Wachovia Foundation Financial Services Scholarships and a Virtual Trading Room at the university. The funds will go toward a scholarship program for 23 rising sophomores in the business school who are able to maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE (Pa.) has received an $800,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for annual historical programming, such as a film festival, book series, panel discussions, podcasts, Webcasts, college courses and a speaker series. The efforts will work to engage Lehigh Valley residents in the history of the region.
The UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA BARBARA has received a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its College Alcohol and Substance Education program. The funds will be used to hire more counselors for smaller CASE class sizes. Part of the funds will also be used to develop a Web site for the program and a manual to showcase the program nationally.
