Organization to offer students and parents advice on entering medical field

A New-York based organization will offer guidance to high school students interested in pursing a medical career. Students of Medicine is holding a free seminar Saturday, February 28 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for parents and students that will provide an overview of how to enter the medical field. The seminar is part of a series meant to improve the country’s healthcare and educational systems and will soon start occurring on a weekly basis and be available online.

“Only 17,000 students are admitted into medical schools each year. Being born and raised in New York, I want to make sure we start by ensuring students here in the New York area have all the tools necessary to succeed and gain admission,” said Dr. Andres Jimenez, director of Students of Medicine and author of the book “Getting Into Today’s Highly Competitive U.S. Medical Schools.” Jimenez graduated from an Ivy League medical school and will host the seminar.

Students of Medicine started the online premed program at the Bronx High School for Medical Science two years ago. About 30 students each year complete the program.
