ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC STATE UNIVERSITY (Ga.) has received a five-year, $1 MILLION grant from the National Science Foundation to establish learning communities focusing on undergraduate research for students with a desire to pursue careers in science and mathematics.

THE COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS (Mass.) has been awarded a $900,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to attract more students to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

FRESNO STATE UNIVERSITY athletics (Calif.) has been awarded a $10 MILLION gift from NykelBam International to provide scholarships and more to student athletes.

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY (D.C.) has received a $1.5 MILLION gift from alumnus, donor and board of directors member William J. Doyle to promote tolerance and intellectual engagement with diversity in the curriculum and outside the classroom through the Doyle Building Tolerance Initiative.

HAMPTON UNIVERSITY (Va.) has received a $1.3 MILLION grant from the Department of Defense to improve breast cancer imaging and therapy research in collaboration with the Eastern Virginia Medical School and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY (Va.) has been awarded $200,000 from the Allison J. and Ella W. Parsons Fund of the Norfolk Foundation to fund stipends for faculty fellows and marketing initiatives for the NSU Honors College.

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY has received a $150,000 gift from the Wal-Mart Foundation to support the university’s Savannah River Environmental Sciences Field Station program.

THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES’ David Geffen School of Medicine has received a $2 MILLION grant from Kaiser Permanente to expand the school’s International Medical Graduate Program.

The UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANACHAMPAIGN has received a $1 MILLION gift from Roger Ebert and his wife, Chaz, to establish the Roger Ebert Program for Film Studies Fund. Ebert is an alumnus of the university.
