Former Secretary of State Joins University of Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich.
Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, former secretary of state, will join the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan Business School as its first Distinguished Scholar. The institute is an international, educational think tank that supports and promotes the development of new market economies through research, student education and business assistance.
"We are honored to have former Secretary Albright join the William Davidson Institute," says B. Joseph White, dean of the university's business school and president of the institute. "Her expertise in fostering democratization and institution building is the perfect complement to the Institute's expertise in economic and business elements of emerging market economies around the world."
In her new role, Albright will chair an annual policy conference in Washington and spend several weeks each year interacting with students, scholars, government officials, and business and community leaders at the institute's headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Albright earned her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and her master's and doctorate from Columbia University. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in international affairs, U.S. foreign policy, Russian foreign policy and Central and Eastern European politics. From 1997 to 2001, she was the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government.
