Professional Appointments

Dr. Jess Carreon was recently selected as the next president of Portland Community College in Portland, Ore. Previously, Carreon was the superintendent and president of the Rio Hondo Community College District in Whittier, Calif. Carreon earned a bachelor's from San Diego State University, a master's from the University of California at Irvine and a doctorate from the University of Southern California.
 
Dr. Phillip L. Clay has been named chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Clay has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1975 and served most recently as associate provost. Clay earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a doctorate from MIT.
 

Dr. Mildred Garcia has been selected to lead Berkeley College's five campuses in New York and New Jersey. Currently, Garcia is vice provost for academic personnel at Arizona State University. Garcia earned a bachelor's from Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York, master's degrees from Columbia University and New York University, and a doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College.
Dr. Grace S. Jones has been named president of Three Rivers Community College, which consists of five campuses in Norwich, Conn. Jones has been the president of the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah, since 1996. Jones earned a bachelor's from Washburn University in Kansas, a master's from George Williams College in Illinois and a doctorate from the Union Institute in Ohio.

Dr. Evelyn C. Wesley has been selected to become president of Merritt College in Oakland, Calif. Prior to this appointment, Wesley was interim president. Wesley earned an associate's degree from Merritt College, bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University-Hayward and a doctorate from the University of San Francisco.

Dr. C.T. Wright has been named president and CEO of the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help, a global organization providing support for education and humanitarian initiatives in Africa and around the world. Wright is a former president of Cheyney University. He earned a bachelor's from Fort Valley State University, a master's from Atlanta University and a doctorate from Boston University.
