Professional Appointments
Dr. David L. Briscoe recently was elected chair of the Public Policy Committee of the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education. An associate professor of sociology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Briscoe earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a doctorate from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Adrienne Brooks has been appointed associate vice president of institutional advancement at Xavier University in New Orleans. Previously, Brooks was director of major gifts at Howard University in Washington. She earned a bachelor's from Beloit College and a master's from Columbia University.
Dr. Arnold Burger, a physics professor at Fisk University, was honored recently for the development of a new crystal growth process for producing gamma-ray detectors by a panel of science and technology experts for Research and Development magazine. Burger earned a bachelor's, master's and doctorate from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Dr. Karen Butler has been named assistant dean of engineering at Texas A&M University. Butler is an associate professor in the department of electrical engineering. Butler earned a bachelor's from Southern University, a master's from the University of Texas-Austin and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Howard University.
Jess Craig is the new vice president of student services at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif. Craig has been an administrator with Irvine Valley College for the past 12 years. Craig earned a bachelor's in education from the University of Idaho, a master's in human relations from the University of Oklahoma and completed post-graduate work in education at UCLA.
Dr. Brian O. Hemphill has been named associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Arkansas. Most recently, he was associate dean of students at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Hemphill earned a bachelor's from St. Augustine's College, a master's from Iowa State University and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
