Ball State University (Ind.) received a $1 million gift from retired history professor Phyllis Yuhas to help students study abroad and to help bring international students to campus.

California State University-Northridge received $300,000 from Countrywide Credit Industries Inc. for the creation of the university’s first endowed professorship in the department of finance, real estate and insurance.

Howard University received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of State to finance the Principles of Cooperation program, which is designed to increase minority participation in the diplomatic service.

St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management (N.Y.) received a $3 million gift from Bermuda-based insurers ACE Limited and XL Capital Ltd. The gift will establish the Robert Clements Chair in the Tobin College of Business.

The University of Oklahoma’s College of Engineering received a $1.1 million gift from Williams and Williams Communications to assist in constructing a new student services center and endow the Williams Professorship in engineering.

Winston-Salem State University (N.C.) received $300,000 from retired R.J.R. Nabisco Inc. executive and philanthropist, Marshall B. Bass, to endow a scholarship program.
