Grants & AwardsCentral State University (Ohio) has been awarded a $2.2 million five-year grant from the National Science Foundation to improve the university’s educational programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.Delaware State University received $48,000 from power company Conectiv to be used toward its Endowed Scholarship Fund.The Fannie Mae Foundation has renewed its sponsorship of The PhD Project, an award-winning program to increase diversity in America’s business schools, with a commitment of $25,000 for 2002. St. Phillip’s College (Texas) has received two grants from the San Antonio Area Foundation totaling more than $10,000. The grants will help fund two education initiatives in the Division of Applied Science and Technology, including a new occupational therapy program in geriatrics and a culinary arts classroom refurbishing project. Valdosta State University (Ga.) has received $8 million from the estate of Lillian S. Steele. The gift will endow academic scholarships in finance and accounting and establish distinguished chairs in the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration. Winston Salem State University (N.C.) received a three-year $141,318 grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will be used to enhance the critical thinking and reasoning skills of the university’s math and science students.
