Grants & Awards

Baltimore City Community College received $25,000 from the Verizon Foundation to support the college’s initiative known as the Workforce Scholarships for Working Students Program.

Elmhurst College (Ill.) received a $35,000 grant from the SBC Excelerator Program to help bring the benefits of technology to underserved areas, particularly in adult computer literacy.

The Hispanic College Fund Inc. received $150,000 from the Sodexho Foundation, the charitable arm of the nation’s leading provider of food and facilities management services. The grant will help fund HCF scholarships for college students in need of financial assistance.

Morgan State University (Md.) is the recipient of a five-year, $6 million grant from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center to establish the Center for Advanced Microwave Research and Applications. The center is being established to help support NASA’s mission through cutting-edge research, hands-on laboratory experiences and enhanced training.

Saint Augustine’s College (N.C.) received a $110,000 bequest from Raleigh, N.C.,- alumna Vera Gang Scott, ’35.

Stetson University College of Law (Fla.) received a $1 million pledge from Boston Asset Management Inc. and the Center for Special Needs Trust Administration Inc. to establish the Faculty Chair in Elder and Disability Law, the first of its kind in the nation.

The Tom Joyner Foundation received $150,000 from Red Lobster. Sixty students enrolled at historically Black colleges and universities will receive $2,500 scholarships.
