Professional Appointments

Dr. Walter R. Allen has been appointed professor of education and holder of the Allan Murray Cartter chair in higher education at UCLA's Graduate School of Education. Previously he served as professor of sociology at UCLA and the University of Michigan. He earned a bachelor's from Beloit College, and a master's and doctorate from the University of Chicago.

Christal M. Cherry has been named director of development at the University of the District of Columbia. Previously she was assistant director of development at American University. Cherry earned a bachelor's from Hofstra University and a master's from Hampton University.

Dr. Christopher A. Lester has been named associate director of the Center for Minority Educational Affairs at Georgetown University. He recently taught and served as coordinator in the social justice education program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He earned a bachelor's from Westfield State College and a master's and doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Kim Manning-Lewis has been appointed vice president for university relations at Rutgers University. Manning-Lewis was executive director of university relations since 2001. She earned a bachelor's from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick.

Robin Martin has been named Dillard University's new director of athletics and head women's basketball coach. She is also the university's first female director of athletics. Martin received her bachelor's and master's at the University of New Orleans, where she also began her coaching career as second assistant coach of the women's basketball team. 

Dr. Bijoy K. Sahoo has been appointed assistant vice chancellor for strategic planning and continuous improvement in the division of academic affairs at North Carolina Central University. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Utkal University and Ravenshaw College in India and an MBA and a doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
