Minority Philanthropy Initiative Gets $3 Million Grant
INDIANAPOLIS
A $3 million grant awarded to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University could help put more minorities, women and youth in positions of philanthropy leadership.
The center said it will use the grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to reach current and future leaders.
"Our goal is to support and learn from current leaders, as well as to mentor future ones who desire to build a meaningful career in philanthropy," said Associate Director Larry Smith, who will lead the new program.
The program will also attempt to understand the challenges and issues facing minorities, women and young people entering philanthropy jobs.
"As the philanthropic sector continues to grow, it needs knowledgeable, executive-level leaders from a variety of backgrounds who understand the issues and trends affecting nonprofits," said Dr. Eugene R. Tempel, the center's executive director.
