Morehouse College to Accept 30 Students from Xavier, Dillard Universities

ATLANTA

Morehouse College announced plans to aid students displaced by the devastation in the Gulf region caused by Hurricane Katrina. The college has pledged to accept up to 30 students from Xavier and Dillard Universities, both sister institutions of the United Negro College Fund. 

As a member of UNCF, Morehouse has agreed to extend offers of admission to approximately 30 students from Xavier and Dillard as “special registrants” for the fall 2005 semester. Students from these schools who wish to enroll at Morehouse must present proof of enrollment in the form of a recent grade report or unofficial transcript, and must demonstrate that they were in good standing at their home institution. Priority will be given to graduating seniors, then to Georgia residents and then to others on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuition and fees for these students will be waived to the extent these costs are not met by federal, state and other financial aid sources. Accordingly, we will request that all special enrollment students complete financial aid forms and pursue transfer of their aid to Morehouse. Special enrollment students from Xavier and Dillard who are not originally from metropolitan Atlanta will be permitted to reside on campus. Room and board costs will be waived for these students.

In addition, the college is organizing several activities to raise funds for the disaster. This week, the Bonner Office of Community Service will host a candle light vigil to remember the victims, while the Morehouse College Student Government Association will host a benefit concert featuring Jaspects, a student jazz group.

The Office of Student Services have identified all of their students from New Orleans and other affected areas. The Office of Business and Finance is contacting all enrolled students from the affected areas to determine how the college may assist them through financial aid or any other assistance.
