MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama State University paid more than $240,000 in legal fees in the seven months between November and May.
The Montgomery Advertiser obtained the figures through an open records request. The payments included $83,000 to White, Arnold and Dowd in Birmingham. The law firm, which includes former federal judge U.W. Clemon, has been representing the university during a forensic audit ordered by the governor’s office.
The legal payments also included nearly $99,600 to Michael Buckner, who specializes in NCAA-related matters. ASU paid more than $30,000 to the law firm of Carter and Knight and more than $23,000 to Bush Intellectual Law Group, which specializes in patent law.
