Professional Appointments

Dr. Julianne Malveaux has been named president of Bennett College (N.C.). She is a nationally known activist and columnist, appearing in Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, USA Today and Ms. Magazine, among others. Malveaux earned a bachelor’s and master’s from Boston College and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Willie J. Gilchrist has been named chancellor of Elizabeth City State University (N.C.). He had been serving in an interim role. Gilchrist earned a bachelor’s from ECSU, a master’s from Brockport State University and a doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

Cheri Lawson has been appointed director for equal opportunity programs in the Office of the Provost at Princeton University (N.J.). She was most recently an equal opportunity specialist for Home Depot. Lawson holds a bachelor’s from Long Island University and a law degree from Fordham University.

Grace G. Hernández has been appointed director of affirmative action at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She had previously served as director of the office of institutional diversity at the University of Texas-San Antonio. Hernández holds a bachelor’s from UT-San Antonio and a master’s from Webster University.

Randy Harris has been named vice president for administration and finance at California State University- Northridge. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from Brigham Young University.
