Professional Appointments

Dr. Linda Warner has been named president of Haskell Indian Nations University (Kan.). She had previously been associate vice chancellor for academic affairs for the Tennessee Board of Regents. Warner, a member of the Comanche Nation, holds an associate degree from Northeastern A&M Junior College, a bachelor’s from Northeastern State University, a master’s from Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.

 

Dr. Desdemona Cardoza has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University-Los Angeles. She had been dean of the university’s College of Natural and Social Sciences. Cardoza holds a bachelor’s from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s and doctorate from UC-Riverside.

 

Kimberly Jones has been named director of congressional affairs at the Council for Opportunity in Education. She was previously an associate with the law firm Dow Lohnes. Jones earned a bachelor’s from Yale University and a law degree from Georgetown University.

 

Lorraine Newton Lalli has been named assistant dean of students at Roger Williams University School of Law (R.I.). She had previously been the school’s first director of diversity and outreach. Lalli earned a bachelor’s from Spelman College and a law degree from Roger Williams University.

 

Dr. Robert C. Pianta has been appointed dean of the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. He was most recently director of the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning at the university. Pianta earned his bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Connecticut and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

 

 

Dr. Alton B. Pollard III has been named dean of Howard University’s School of Divinity. He had most recently served as director of the Program on Black Church Studies at the Candler School of Theology. Pollard holds a bachelor’s from Fisk University, a master’s from Harvard University and a doctorate from Duke University.

Dr. Norma Rodríguez has been named director of recruitment and diversity at the University of Washington School of Law. She had been an assistant professor at California State University-Chico. Rodríguez holds a bachelor’s from CSU-Bakersfield and a master’s and doctorate from UW.

Dr. Horacio Sosa has been appointed dean of the College of Professional and Continuing Education at Rowan University (N.J.). He earned a bachelor’s from Universidad Nacional de la Plata and a master’s and doctorate from Stanford University.

 

Dr. James Q. Swift has been named president of the American Dental Education Association. He is currently director of the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Swift holds a bachelor’s from Cornell College and a dental degree from the University of Iowa.
