Creighton University has received a $2.5 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to determine whether calcium and vitamin D supplementation can prevent fractures caused by osteoporosis.
Prairie View A&M University has been awarded a $1.63 million grant from the Texas Instruments Foundation to fund laboratory enhancements, scholarships and faculty salaries in an effort to improve electrical engineering programs — concentrating on the areas of analog and digital signal processing.
The University of Texas at El Paso has been awarded a $1.44 million grant from the Texas Instruments Foundation to fund laboratory enhancements, scholarships and faculty salaries in an effort to improve electrical engineering programs — concentrating on the areas of analog and digital signal processing. The university must match a portion of the foundation’s grant.
Spelman College has received a $1 million award from The Goizueta Foundation to establish the first endowed, need-based scholarship program in the historically Black institution’s 119-year history. The program, which will provide four-year support for incoming freshwomen who face severe economic hardship and who exhibit exceptional leadership potential, expects to produce more than 100 Goizueta scholars in its first 10 years.
Alabama A&M University has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Congress for research on peanut allergy reduction. Dr. Hortense Dodo, who is conducting the research, is an associate professor of food biotechnology and will work in
collaboration with the University of Georgia and the University of Florida.
The Mary Morton Parsons Foundation has approved a $500,000, two-for-one matching grant for Virginia Union University to be used for the renovation of the Belgian Friendship Building. The university must raise $1 million in one year to complete the match.
Regents College has received a $280,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study the effectiveness of distance learning in college-level computer and information technology education.
Prince George’s Community College has received a $250,000 donation from David Hillman, chairman of Southern Management Corp., to establish a scholarship endowment fund.
Tennessee State University has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the America OnLine Foundation’s Digital Divide Bridge Grant program to support projects that give under-served communities exposure to computers and the Internet.
The Fashion Institute of Technology’s Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries has received a $50,000 gift from Hans Ege to establish an endowed scholarship in memory of fashion photographer Louise Dahl-Wolfe.Ege is a distant relative of Dahl-Wolfe.
