The American Council of Education’s Center for Lifelong Learning has received a two-year, $400,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation to study the educational needs and goals of adult students between the ages of 55 to 79.
Colby College (Maine) has received a private art collection valued at
$100 million. The collection, which features 500 pieces from Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, James McNeill Whistler and others, was donated by Colby alumnus Peter Lunder and his wife, Paula.
The collection is the most valuable gift in the history of the college.
Excelsior College (N.Y.) has received a $104,000 grant from the Ford Foundation to develop master’s level courses to create a project titled “Taking Root: Teaching our Teachers about Diaspora,” which helps teachers understand the issues faced by the children of immigrants.
An alumni couple has promised $51 million to Marquette University (Wis.) to help fund the construction of a new law school facility. Raymond A. Eckstein graduated from the law school in 1949. His wife, Kathryn A. Eckstein, earned a bachelor’s there the same year.
The gift is the largest ever by individuals to a Wisconsin university.
Morehouse College (Ga.) has received a $2 million donation from Goldman Sachs to create the Goldman Sachs Leadership Chair in Civil and Human Rights for the director of the college’s Martin Luther
King Jr. Collection. Morehouse oversees the 10,000-piece collection of King’s handwritten notes and speeches.
The Pacific Northwest College of Art (Ore.) has received a $15 million gift from Hallie E. Ford, the co-founder of the Ford Family Foundation of Oregon. The gift, the largest ever to an Oregon arts organization, will be used to create the Ford Institute for Visual Education and will fund a new Master of Fine Arts degree program.
