PHILADELPHIA ― Philadelphia’s former mayor is joining the faculty at Columbia University this semester.
Michael Nutter will teach urban policy at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. The school’s dean touted the 58-year-old Nutter as a leader on urban policy issues, including economic development, public safety and environmental innovation.
Nutter, a West Philadelphia native, has been a veteran of city politics for nearly a generation. He was elected as the 98th mayor of Philadelphia in 2007, and left office earlier this month after eight years in office. He previously served on the Philadelphia City Council for 15 years.
Nutter’s daughter, Olivia, is a member of Columbia’s class of 2017.
