CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
The Harvard Civil Rights Project -- headed by Christopher Edley Jr., former advisor to President Bill Clinton and current law professor, and Gary Orfield, professor of education and social policy -- announced earlier this month that it had received a $500,000 grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
The project, which has as its stated purpose assessing "the prospects for justice and equal opportunity under law for racial and ethnic minorities in the United States," was founded last year (see Black Issues, May 1, 1997). It has been holding a series of symposia, the next one being an examination of the "new demography of suburban diversity" scheduled for later this month.
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation was founded in Flint, Michigan, in 1926 and is "committed to supporting projects that promote a just, equitable, and sustainable society," according to its statements.
