IRVINE Calif.
Irvine Co. chairman Donald Bren is donating $20 million to the fledgling law school at University of California, Irvine.
The law school opens in fall 2009 and will be named after Bren, UC Irvine Chancellor Michael V. Drake said Monday.
The donation by the billionaire Newport Beach developer and philanthropist will fund salaries for the law school’s dean and 11 faculty positions for its first class of 67 students.
Eventually, the Donald Bren School of Law will have up to 40 professors and 600 students.
UC Irvine is already home to the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, the Bren Events Center and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, which was renamed after Bren’s late stepmother, the Academy Award-winning actress.
