The longest-serving president of Rhode Island College is retiring.
John Nazarian says he’s stepping down in June from the job he’s held since 1990.
Nazarian attended the public college as an undergraduate and was appointed an instructor immediately after he graduated in 1954.
He later received masters degrees from Brown University and the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in mathematics from New York University.
Nazarian, who’s 75, says he’s been privileged to be involved with the school for so long and to see it transform into a great institution.
College spokeswoman Jane Fusco (FYOO’-skoh) says the Board of Governors for Higher Education will decide on Nazarian’s replacement.
