School: Holy Cross
Year: Junior
Major: Biology

Holy Cross biology major Tyler Williamson was recognized among the 2023 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars. This scholar-athlete participates in volunteer programs such as LUK mentoring at Plumley Village in Worcester, which supports elementary school children from low-income families. Williamson is a leader, too. That is, he is a two-time crew captain of the 50-member Holy Cross Crusaders team, on which the oarsman was voted to serve as a junior captain and re-elected his senior year. Holy Cross Men's Rowing Head Coach Jim Barr explained that the team nominates potential captains, “and the reasons his peers gave for his nomination all centered around how academically minded he is outside of practice and his selflessness on the team and at practice,” said Barr. “Tyler is truly an exemplary student-athlete, for and with others.”
