In a letter released on the one-year anniversary of the DACA rescission, the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities (APLU) advised House Speaker Paul Ryan, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Charles Schumer to protect Dreamers.
Peter McPhersonDACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was created by the Obama Administration in 2012 to allow those brought to the U.S. illegally as children, or Dreamers, the temporary right to live, learn and work in America.
When the Trump Administration rescinded the program last year, 787,580 Dreamers had been granted approval.
“Over the past year, we have appreciated statements from leadership and others in the House and Senate who agree that Dreamers deserve a more certain future. But, only an act of Congress can guarantee them the opportunity to make further contributions to society,” Peter McPherson, president of the APLU, wrote in the letter.
“As you determine the fall congressional calendar and set the agenda for must-pass legislation, we urge you to prioritize a bipartisan, permanent solution for Dreamers without further delay.” McPherson continued.
