Navajo Technical University Programs Receive ABET Approval

by

The electrical and industrial engineering programs at Navajo Technical University (NTU) were recently approved for accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

NTU’s approval makes it the first Tribal College or university (TCU) to offer ABET-accredited engineering programs, according to the Tribal College Journal. The TCU’s accreditation is retroactive and extends back to October 1, 2015.

“Our alumni played a crucial role in our approval, since the majority of their work was reviewed and assessed by the Engineering Accreditation Commission,” said Dr. Casmir Agbaraji, dean of undergraduate studies at NTU. “The retroactive accreditation is a testament to the quality of their work and celebrates everything they endured to get our engineering programs off the ground.”

Agbaraji added that the accreditation notice is a “tremendous accomplishment for NTU and all tribal colleges and universities. We’ve paved the path for others to follow, and we’re excited to open a world of opportunities for students.”
