Marymount University Unveils New Scholarship for DREAMers

by

Marymount University (MU) recently announced its creation of a new scholarship available to DREAMers, or recipients of the federal DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.)

Earlier this year, MU began a partnership with TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access program from DREAMers, which enabled incoming MU DREAMers to apply for the organization’s national scholarship. Of the 50 DACA recipients at MU, six earned the TheDream.US national scholarship.

Now, MU DREAMers can also apply to MU’s university-based scholarship which “seeks to ease the financial burden for a greater number of these students who are not eligible for federal financial aid.”

“Marymount is a special place,” said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), an advocate for DACA protection. “Marymount is recognized as one of the most diverse universities in the South. It’s no surprise that Marymount would be one of the few universities in the country recognized for its support of DREAMers. Diversity is a value here and the support for DREAMers is very admirable. This has been a commitment that Marymount has had for a while.”

Fundraising efforts for the new scholarship program are now underway.
