The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation donated $100 million to the Yale School of Management (SOM) to advance equity within public-school systems.

Through the donation, education leaders are eligible to earn their master’s degrees tuition-free and superintendents can enroll in developmental training. Additionally, research will be conducted on public education leadership. This initiative aims to build on the work of the Broad Center in Los Angeles, which has trained more than 850 education leaders in over 150 urban school districts and agencies nationwide, according to a SOM press release.

“With its mission to educate leaders for business and society, Yale SOM is a natural home for The Broad Center,” said Dr. Kerwin K. Charles, dean of the Yale SOM. “We have long recognized public education as critical to the health of our communities, and we believe that our distinctive approach to management education and research can have tremendous impact. Our efforts will build on the extraordinary work of The Broad Center team over the past two decades. Indeed, we are impressed by and grateful for what they have done to advance excellence and equity in public education.”
