The City University of New York (CUNY) was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to create a mentorship programs for small businesses within the city.

Entrepreneurs have the opportunity to take introductory courses at CUNY colleges across the five boroughs which will introduce the concepts of using 5G technologies and artificial intelligence within their business plan. The 12-hour courses are taught over four evenings or two days with the goal of training around 50 small business owners in each borough, according to CUNY.

“This innovative program, which involves a CUNY college in every borough, is another illustration of the integral role the University plays throughout New York City,” said CUNY Chancellor Dr. Félix V. Matos Rodríguez in a statement. “This generous grant from the Verizon Foundation will enable CUNY to continue its goal of helping city-based veteran, minority and women-owned small businesses become more competitive, a responsibility we take very seriously as the country’s most diverse public higher education institution.”
