MIAC Postpones Several Fall Sports to Spring

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference said it will postpone fall 2020 competition events in cross country, football, soccer and volleyball to the spring due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Miac

The conference said it is working to develop spring schedules for these sports, which are categorized by the NCAA as medium- or high-risk for coronavirus transmission.

Men’s and women’s golf and tennis will be allowed to compete against conference opponents only this fall.

“Our number one priority is the health and safety of students and staff,” said Paul Pribbenow, chair of the conference’s Presidents’ Council and Augsburg University president, in a statement. “The decision to postpone competition for many of our fall sports was very difficult, as we know how much our student-athletes want to compete and how important athletics are to each of our campuses, but we need to put ourselves in a position to return to play as safely as possible.”
