Grants & Awards
California State University at Northridge’s Minority Biomedical Research Support program has received two grants totaling more than $6 million to develop biomedical research and enhance research education. The grants were awarded by the National Institutes of Health through its National Institute of General Medical Sciences division.
Macalester College (Minn.) received a $1,766,658 grant from the Freeman Foundation to support Chinese studies in the college’s Asian studies program.
Saint Augustine’s College (N.C.) received $750,000 from Irwin Belk. The gift will be used for the construction of the college’s new track and field facilities.
Tuskegee University (Ala.) received a $5 million endowment grant from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities. The grant will provide major support for a special initiative at the university to reduce health disparities among minority populations.
The University of Hawaii has received a $5.9 million federal grant to establish a biomedical research infrastructure network.
The University of Northern Colorado received $75,000 and a pilot program from State Farm Insurance to provide eight internships for UNC students. The partnership between State Farm and the university’s Office of Multicultural Affairs marks the largest single corporate gift benefiting minority students at UNC.
