Diverse Co-Founder and CEO Dr. William E. Cox Recognized by American Counseling Association

Dr. William E. Cox, the co-founder and CEO of Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, was recently named an American Counseling Association (ACA) Fellow — the organization’s highest honor recognizing “members who have contributed to — and advanced — the counseling profession throughout their career.”

Cox co-founded Diverse, originally known as Black Issues In Higher Education, with Frank L. Matthews in 1984. He’s held a long career in advocacy and education, previously working as a U.S. military instructor and rising the ranks to become a high-level education administrator for the Air Force. His academic writings can be found in The Unfinished Agenda of Brown v. Board of Education and The Unfinished Agenda of the Selma-Montgomery Voting Rights March.

After graduating from Alabama A&M in 1964, Cox received two master’s degrees from Ball State University and a doctoral degree in higher education from George Washington University.
