The first initiative – funded by the church – will give $1 million a year for three years to the UNCF for Black U.S. students. The money will give $5,000 a year to 58 full-time students a year – 174 students over three years.

The second initiative – between the church and NAACP – will give $6 million in humanitarian aid in U.S. inner cities.

The third initiative – funded by the church – will give $250,000 for the Amos C. Brown Student Fellowship to Ghana to send 50 students to Ghana Summer 2022.

The Rev. Amos C. Brown, NAACP emeritus director of religious affairs and president of NAACP San Francisco, has made multiple trips to Ghana.

“We will send scholars who will go to western Ghana and have that once-in-a-lifetime experience of witnessing that horrible, inhumane slave trade,” he said, “not to become bitter over it but to become agents of betterment, so that we will be able to make real amends for that tragic, Atlantic slave trade.”

The announcements came ahead of Juneteenth on Saturday.
