NORMA V. CANTU

Norma CantuNORMA V. CANTÚ has been appointed chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, making her the first Latina to hold the position. Cantú is a professor of education and professor of law at the University of Texas at Austin, where she specializes in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and education law. She previously served as assistant secretary of education for civil rights during the Clinton administration. She holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
