To Open Singapore Campus
BANGALORE, India
Ceding to pressure from academic and corporate leaders, the government of India has granted permission to the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore to open a new campus in Singapore. The Research and Management Education Center will be IIMB’s only campus in South East Asia.
When IIMB sought permission to open the Singapore branch last November, officials from the Human Resource Development Ministry said IIM wasn’t legally allowed to open branches overseas. Officials also cited the need to cater to demands at home. The dispute ended on Feb. 1 after HRD minister Arjun Singh and IIM directors met to consider amendments that would resolve the stalemate.
This will be the third business school — and the only business school from India — of the Wall Street Journal’s Top 100 Business Schools to have a campus in Singapore. The other two schools are France’s INSEAD and the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.
The Singapore campus will offer a part time MBA program for middle-level executives, executive MBA programs for senior-level executives, short duration executive education programs for managers and customized executive education programs for companies.
The Indian Institutes of Management are the top business schools in India. Graduates of the institutes have gone on to successful careers in Asia, Europe and the United States.
IIM has six centers, located at Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Bangalore, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode. The institutes conduct postgraduate diploma programs in management (equivalent to an MBA), fellowship programs in management development and organization-based programs. IIM also carries out research and consultancy for various industries.
