Professional Appointments

Cynthia E. Nance has been appointed dean of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville School of Law. Nance, who had been an associate professor in the law school, is the first female and first Black dean in the law school’s history. She earned a bachelor’s from Chicago State University and a master’s and law degree from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Barbara Adams has been named director of the College of New Rochelle’s Rosa Parks campus (N.Y.). Most recently, she served as assistant campus director. She  holds a bachelor’s from Hunter College and a master’s and doctorate from Temple University.

Katéy Assem has been appointed vice chancellor for institutional advancement at North Carolina Central University. He was most recently vice president for advancement and research at Fort Valley State University. He holds a bachelor’s from the University of Ghana and a master’s from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Dr. Charles J. Alexander has been appointed assistant vice provost for student diversity at the University of California, Los Angeles’ Division of Undergraduate Education. He holds a bachelor’s from the State University of New York, a master’s from the University of Nebraska and a doctorate from Marquette University.

Dr. Saad A. Hassan has been named chair of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department at Winston-Salem State University. He earned a bachelor’s from Indiana State University, a master’s from Eastern Washington University, a medical degree from Uniremhos Medical School in the Dominican Republic and a doctorate from the University of North Texas.

Dr. Jerry E. Holbert has been appointed associate vice president for institutional advancement at Austin College (Texas). Holbert earned a bachelor’s from Texas A&M University, a master’s from Pan American University and a doctorate from TAMU.

Dr. Tamra Minor has been named associate vice chancellor for institutional diversity at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Most recently, she was director of campus diversity at the university. Minor earned a bachelor’s from the University of Missouri and a master’s and doctorate from The Ohio State University.

Captain Newborn has been appointed director of development for the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Most recently, he was president of the Triangle Association of Professionals. Newborn earned a bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

Derrick L. Wilkins has been named chief information officer at Elizabeth City State University (N.C.). He had been serving in an interim capacity. Wilkins holds a bachelor’s from ECSU and a master’s from Clark Atlanta University.
