Grambling, Southern Name Presidential Finalists

SWAC rivals Grambling State University and Southern University have both named presidential finalists.

Former Tuskegee University President Dr. Gilbert Rochon and former Savannah State University President Dr. Earl Yarbrough both made the Grambling list Friday after being left off the Southern list a day earlier.

Joining Rochon and Yarbrough on the list of contenders for the Grambling State job are current Grambling interim provost/vice president for academic and student affairs Dr. Janet A. Guyden; Wiley College executive vice president and provost Dr. Glenda F. Carter; University of North Alabama vice president for enrollment management Dr. Thomas J. Calhoun Jr.; former vice president for student affairs at the University of Louisiana at Monroe Dr. W. Wayne Brumfield; Morgan State University Chief of Staff Dr. Willie D. Larkin; and former New Mexico State University athletic director Dr. McKinley J. Boston Jr.

A decision is expected June 4.

Roughly 220 miles southeast in Baton Rouge, Southern has narrowed its search down to three: Dr. Ivory Toldson, deputy director of the White House Initiative on HBCUs; Southern University at Shreveport Chancellor Dr. Ray Belton; and Chicago Family Health Center President and CEO Barrett Hatches.

Southern is expected to name a new president by July 1.
