The dean of the Summit Campus of Colorado Mountain College announced plans this week to leave the school to become the first female president of an Arizona community college.
Dr. Leah Bornstein gave notice that she will depart in about two months to take over the presidency of Coconino Community College in Flagstaff.
Bornstein has served as a CMC dean for four years.
“We appreciate Leah’s great contributions to the college, and will miss her enthusiasm and leadership,” Dr. Bob Spuhler, CMC president, said in a news release.
“She has repeatedly stepped up to the plate whenever needed.”
The Summit Campus operates locations in Dillon and Breckenridge. School officials said enrollment increased 15 percent during Bornstein’s tenure, while enrollment of local high school graduates rose four percent.
CMC has more than 20,000 students on seven campuses in a 12,000-square-mile area.
Coconino Community College has about 8,000 students on four campuses over 18,000 square miles.
Bornstein was scheduled to begin her new duties Sept. 4.
