Campus Housing Rule Exempts Military, Veterans

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Many first-time, full-time undergraduate students will have to live on campus during their first year under a requirement approved by New Mexico State University regents.

Chancellor Garrey Carruthers said  after the announcement July 7 that he thinks it’s the right thing to do for students in Las Cruces since there’s evidence that living on campus contributes to greater success in college.
Regents also approved several exceptions. For example, the requirement won’t apply to those students who live with their parents, grandparents, an uncle or aunt or legal guardian.

Those who live with a spouse or dependent children and those who are over 21 are also exempt along with those who are veterans or are active members of the military.

Those with financial or medical hardships can have their cases reviewed.
