Criminal Record Cleared for BYU Student Accused of Groping

PROVO, Utah ― The criminal record of a Brigham Young University student accused of groping women while he jogged on campus has been cleared after he completed terms of a court diversion program.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the decision to expunge Nathan Fletcher’s record was made by a judge despite an alleged victim requesting a public record remain of the case.

Fletcher was facing two misdemeanor charges of sexual battery. He never entered a plea.

As part of a deal with prosecutors last year, Fletcher agreed to take a polygraph test, undergo a psychological exam and stay out of trouble for 18 months. In return, his criminal record would be wiped clean.

Members of the BYU track team identified Fletcher from video but Fletcher’s lawyers argued that evidence was tainted because detectives allowed them to talk among themselves.
