Professional APPOINTMENTS

TALLADEGA GETS FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT

DR. MARGUERITE ARCHIE-HUDSON has taken the reigns of leadership as
president of Talladega College in Alabama, becoming the first woman to
do so and the third alumna. She had been interim president since July.
Archie-Hudson has extensive leadership experience, having served as a
California State Assemblywoman to the 48th assembly district of Los
Angeles from 1990-96. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from
Talladega; a master’s degree in education from Harvard University; and
a doctorate in higher education from the University of California-Los
Angeles.

ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS

DR. KWAKU ARMAH, has been appointed associate vice president of
minority affairs and diversity at William Paterson University. Most
recently, he was director of institutional assessment and research at
Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. Armah earned a
bachelor’s degree in biology, and a master’s degree in educational
psychology, both from Montclair State University; and a doctorate in
educational psychology from Rutgers University.

DR. MACKIE J.V. BLANTON is the new associate dean of multicultural
affairs in the Office of Student Life at the University of New Orleans.
Blanton has been a member of the faculty since 1980 and chaired the
diversity advisory committee to the Office of Academic Affairs since
1994. Blanton earned a bachelor’s degree in French-Spanish from Xavier
University (La.); and a master’s and a doctoral degree in linguistics,
both from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

SANDRA GLOVER has been named the new special assistant to the
president for multicultural and community affairs for Ferris State
University (Mich.). She most recently taught an undergraduate course in
multicultural education at the University of Toledo. Glover earned a
bachelor’s degree in business administration, and a master’s degree in
higher education administration, both from Kent State University.

DR. FREDDYE L. HILL has been named dean of the College for Wesleyan
University (Conn.). For the past ten years, Hill has served Spelman
College as the vice president for student affairs and, most recently,
as academic dean. Hill earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from
Spelman College; and a doctorate in sociology from Northwestern
University.

JENNIFER WILLIAMS MOLOCK is the new director of Black Student
Services at Colorado State University. Most recently, she was a
counselor at the educational opportunity center in Adams County, Colo.
Molock earned a bachelor’s degree in human development and family
studies from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in college
student personnel administration and counseling and councellor
education from Indiana University at Blomington.

JOHN SELMON has been named vice president of Detroit College of
Business in Flint, Mich. He will continue in his previous position,
holding a joint appointment as dean. Selmon earned a bachelor’s degree
in education from the University of Nebraska; and a master’s degree in
educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

DR. BRYAN K. TIPPETT has been appointed associate dean of math,
science, and physical education at Mesa Community College (Ariz.). He
comes to Mesa from the Community College of Allegheny County in
Pittsburgh, where he was campus chair and a professor of biology.
Tippett earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Cannon University; a
master’s degree in biology from Duquesne University; and a doctorate in
educational leadership from the University of Sarasota.

TRUSTEESHIP

EDWINA LONG HEFNER has been appointed to serve on the Board of
Regents of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. She is the
first African American to serve on the board. Hefner is the first lady
of Tennessee State University, where she has served as a member of the
visiting committee to the College of Arts and Sciences. Hefner earned a
bachelor’s degree in psychology from Talladega College; and a master’s
degree in library science from Atlanta University.
