Ohio University Removing Roger Ailes’ Name, Returning gift

ATHENS, Ohio ― Officials say the name of Roger Ailes will be removed from a newsroom at Ohio University and his $500,000 donation will be returned as a result of the sexual harassment allegations against the former Fox News chairman.

University President Roderick McDavis says in a statement Monday that, given the allegations against Ailes and the circumstances surrounding his departure from Fox News, the appropriate action is to return his gift to the school and remove his name from the WOUB newsroom.

McDavis says he consulted with the dean of the university and senior leadership before making his decision. He says he believes that the actions are appropriate and in alignment with the school community’s principled beliefs. He says he has directed the process of physically removing Ailes’ name to begin.

Ailes has denied the allegations. Fox News parent 21st Century Fox settled a lawsuit with first accuser Gretchen Carlson, paying her $20 million and publicly apologizing.
