COLLEGE STATION, Texas —Investigators say a 20-year-old Texas A&M student and Sigma Phi Epsilon member has died at the fraternity house where he lived.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office says deputies Tuesday afternoon responded to a report of CPR being done and found Matthew Hayes unresponsive on his bed. Officials didn’t immediately release a possible cause of death for the student from Beaumont.
An autopsy was ordered.
Other Sigma Phi Epsilon members told deputies they thought Hayes had been asleep, after last seeing him late Monday after returning from a party.
A statement Wednesday from the national Sigma Phi Epsilon expressed sympathy and said the organization was cooperating in the investigation.
It’s the second A&M fraternity student death this year.
Sigma Nu member Anton Gridnev died of an accidental drug overdose in August.
