Cavaliers add assistant coach John Kuester

CLEVELAND

John Kuester joined Mike Brown’s coaching staff with the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant, team officials said Tuesday.

Kuester has been in the NBA for 17 years, working most recently as an assistant with the Orlando Magic. He won an NBA title on Larry Brown’s staff with Detroit in 2004.

He replaces Kenny Natt, who left the Eastern Conference champions for the Utah Jazz last month.

Kuester (pronounced QUE-stir) has also been assistant coach with Philadelphia and New Jersey.

“We’re fortunate to have John join Mike Brown’s coaching team,” general manager Danny Ferry said. “John will bring a great all-around view of the game to our staff and be able to help in all areas of our team’s development. He’s a passionate coach that has experienced winning at the highest level and we look forward to him being a key contributor.”

Kuester spent 10 years as a college coach before jumping to the NBA. He coached at Boston University and George Washington.
