The Violence of Academia Helped Me See One Thing Clearly
I have spent a lot of time reflecting on life and death, for a few reasons. Around this time last year my mother almost died in a car accident. The year prior my dad nearly passed away, having to have back-to-back brain surgeries. In the past few years, multiple loved ones have died. Many of these lives I have yet to even grieve. Ironically, this time period was the peak of when I became most acquainted with academia’s violence.

Questioning Our Questions About Faculty Diversity
I was recently contacted by a news outlet to share thoughts about the lack of faculty diversity within the UC (University of California) system. This is the kind of opportunity I especially welcome because it allows me to discuss both my scholarly expertise and insights through experiences. However, on this particular occasion my excitement was soon met with other sentiments.

UC Irvine Funds 19 Projects to Advance Equity Amid COVID-19
The University of California Irvine (UCI) announced that it will be funding 19 projects aimed at advancing equity in the age of COVID-19. An initiative by the Office of Inclusive Excellence’s Confronting Extremism Program, the awards will support interdisciplinary approaches to inequities highlighted by the coronavirus pandemic.
