Brookings Institution Finds Ending Student Debt Could Lessen Racial Wealth Gap
Debt relief should be assessed by wealth instead of income, and there is a direct relationship between student debt cancellation and minimizing the racial wealth gap. That was the sentiments expressed during a panel discussion held on Monday by The Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program.

Report: Income, Race Disparities Persist in Higher Education Opportunities
While the United States has made progress in increasing postsecondary attainment, data trends show that there are still persisting inequalities in higher education opportunity, according to a new report from the Council for Opportunity in Education’s Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Education and the University of Pennsylvania Alliance for Higher Education and Democracy (PennAHEAD).

Success Comes At a Price
While the number of low-socioeconomic status (SES) and first-generation students attending graduate school is increasing, many barriers still stand between these students and their climb up the social ladder: largely the disparity between networks and opportunities when compared to their more-privileged peers. During my time in graduate school, I have learned the importance of attending professional conferences and other networking events, however, I have also learned who can afford to go to these events – and who cannot.

UNCF Issues First Ever State of HBCUs Address, Launches HBCU Congressional Honor Roll
Institutional leaders, elected officials, advocates and other supporters of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) were in attendance Tuesday for the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) inaugural State of the HBCU Address, which put forth a comprehensive legislative agenda for Congressional members to further support HBCUs and their capacity to be engines of socioeconomic mobility for the students they serve.
