Wesleyan University Settles Professor’s Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ― Wesleyan University in Connecticut has settled a lawsuit filed by a professor who alleged school administrators mishandled an investigation into sexual harassment complaints she made against another professor.

Documents filed in federal court in New Haven show a judge dismissed associate professor Lauren Caldwell’s lawsuit Sept. 1, after lawyers reported the settlement. Terms were not disclosed.

Caldwell, who teaches classical studies, alleged discrimination and retaliation after she approached Professor Andrew Curran in 2013 about sexual comments he allegedly made toward her. Curran was dean of arts and humanities at the time and Caldwell’s faculty mentor.

Court documents say Wesleyan officials found Curran’s conduct wasn’t sexual harassment.

A Wesleyan spokesman declined to comment Wednesday. Caldwell didn’t immediately return a message.

Curran said in an email he would respond later Wednesday.
