Program Preps Latinx Students for Professoriate in Humanities
The Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions recently held its inaugural Cross-Institutional Conference for the HSI Pathways to the Professoriate Program, a $5.1-million grant initiative sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that aims to diversify the professoriate by supporting 90 students at three Hispanic Serving Institutions as they prepare to apply and matriculate into doctoral programs in the humanities.

JUAN ARMANDO ROJAS JOO has been appointed associate dean for diversity and inclusion at Ohio Wesleyan University. Rojas is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Ohio Wesleyan. Rojas earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a doctorate from the University of Arizona.

JAYATI GHOSH has been appointed dean of the School of Business Administration and a professor of international business at Widener University. She was associate dean of the Barowsky School of Business at Dominican University of California. Ghosh earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Calcutta in India, a master’s from Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, and a doctorate from the University of Waterloo in Canada.

LATANYA BUCK has been named dean for diversity and inclusion at Princeton University, effective in August. She was founding director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Central Missouri, and a doctorate from Saint Louis University.

ANNE R. HAAKE has been named dean of the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). She was interim dean of the College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT. Haake received a bachelor’s from Colgate University, and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of South Carolina. She also earned a master’s from RIT.

Lachemi earned a bachelor’s from l’Université des Sciences et de la Technologie d’Oran in Algeria, and a master’s and a doctorate from L’Université de Sherbrooke, also in Algeria.

She is vice provost for faculty affairs and a professor of counseling and human development in the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. Holcomb-McCoy earned a bachelor’s and a master’s from the University of Virginia, and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

ROBERTA DIAZ BRINTON has been appointed director of the UA Center for Innovation in Brain Science at the University of Arizona Health Sciences. She is the R. Pete Vanderveen Chair in Therapeutic Discovery and Development in the School of Pharmacy and a professor of biomedical engineering in the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California.
